Program Overview:

Traveling by fat bike within the Avalon Wilderness Reserve offers an opportunity to experience the pristine natural beauty in a safe and unique way. If you’ve never ridden a fat bike, you will see that these incredibly strong and stable bicycles can go to areas that traditional mountain bikes are unable to access. We are proud to use high quality Trek fat bikes for this tour - they are fun to operate and, most importantly, leave no trace of our visit.  It is one of the best ways to experience the Reserve, while simultaneously getting in some exercise. Considering we are visiting a designated wilderness reserve, guests will often observe resident wildlife, such as beaver, otter, lynx, caribou, moose, and muskrat.

The Avalon Wilderness Fat Bike Adventure is a 1/2 day, guided adventure, where guests have an opportunity to explore the rugged Newfoundland backcountry in a healthy and fun way.

About the Avalon Wilderness Reserve:

The AWR consists of 1,070 square kilometres of barrens and forests. It protects the Avalon woodland caribou herd, the most southerly caribou herd in Canada. The survival of this herd is a North American conservation success story. A rolling plateau, the area is dotted with boulders that were left behind by melting glaciers more than 10,000 years ago. The climate is "marine"-winters are mild, summers are cool. Strong winds, high humidity and rainfall are typical, and there is often heavy fog.
